Storytime Schedule to Change

Storytime Schedule to Change at Perry Carnegie Library

Due to the popularity of weekly children's programming, Perry Carnegie Library is changing the way it schedules Storytime activities for young children. Storytime for children ages 0-2 will now take place Tuesday morning from 9:30 – 9:50 and ages 3-4 will have Storytime from 10:10 – 10:40. As usual, programs will be designed for the specific developmental stages of attending children. Monday and Wednesday Storytime activities will be discontinued until further notice.

Animal Safety & Crime Prevention Program

At 10:00 on October 17, 2008, Perry Carnegie Library will be hosting Officers McGuire and Tygo from the Perry Police Department. The officers will demonstrate Tygo's abilities as a police dog, including how he assists the human officers in their duties, and provide information on animal protection.

Children of all ages, as well as interested adults, are encouraged to attend. Sign-up is not required. This event will be held in the Library's Thelma Knox Brown Meeting Room.

Library Closed 09/13/2008 For Cherokee Strip Celebration

Perry Carnegie Library will be closed Saturday, September 13th, 2008, to allow its employees to celebrate the 115th Cherokee Strip Land Run Celebration with their friends and family.

Normal business hours will resume Monday, September 15th at 9:00 A.M. Anyone wishing to return items during this time may place them in our book drop.

The Children's Department is gearing up for the Fall & Winter programs. Brochures for the programs will be ready at end of August. Sign-up sheets will be available on August 18th.

2008 Summer Reading Program


Good Morning,
Summer Reading Program is over for 2008, it was a huge success. We had 828 children attend all programs from Monday's Bug Movie Festival, Tuesday & Wednesday's
story time programs, and Thursday's guest speakers.
I would like to thank all of the children who participate, parent's and caregivers for taking time to bring your children to the library, Ms. Di for her work at taking pictures (stop by and see the slide show), Joe Rupp for helping with the movies, and Friends of the Library for their support and contribution of books and money.

I hope to see you all next summer at the 2009 Summer Reading Programs, our theme will be "Be Creative @ your Library", we will learn about the arts.

Scholastic Book Fair

Good morning
Perry Carnegie Library is excited about our upcoming Book Fair. An amazing selection of books is headed our way! The Book Fair will be held in the Thelma Knox Brown Meeting Room.
The dates and times: June 16th - 19th - 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and June 20th - 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Free Comic Book Day

Saturday, May 3rd, is Free Comic Book Day. Perry Carnegie Library will have a table at the new skate park dedication to hand out comic books.

Job Announcement

Perry Carnegie Library is currently taking applications for a Part-Time Children's Assistant to help the public in all areas of the Library. Main duties include checking materials out to patrons, shelving items returned to the Library, and assisting full-time staff in their duties as necessary. A full job description is available upon request.

The Children's Assistant will work four weekdays and Saturday. Pay is $8.00 per hour.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAP)

Perry Carnegie Library will help promote Child Abuse Prevention with storytimes focusing on playing, reading, and family. Children's Department will have a special table filled with coloring and activity sheets and craft items beginning the first of April, for parent/grandparent can do with you child/grandchild. This years CAP theme is "It only takes a Minute"

Library Cards

Good Morning,
Children's library cards are a changing! Beginning last week children's library cards changed colors, YELLOW. If your child would like to have a new card you must turn in the blue card or there will be a $3.00 fee to make a new one. The card is for children ages 0 - 17, on your child's 18th birthday they may turn in the yellow card for an blue one (adult).
The Children's Department can now make library cards.

Library Tour

Good afternoon,
Today, the Children's Department hosted the United Methodist Church Children's Group. A total of 26 children and their sponsors met in the Thelma Knox Brown Conference Room. The group tour the library, learned how to get and use library cards. The group also learned about book types and the usage of the Dewey Decimal System in helping to find Non-fiction books. The rest of the time was used to check out books, play games, and network with one another.

Here's what's happening @ your library in March


March 3rd - I will be in a meeting all day.
March 4th - no Storytime
March 5th - Storytime Easter Egg Hunt
March 10th - no LapSit Program due to RIF
March 11th & 12 - no Storytime due to RIF
March 12th - 14th RIF
March 17th - 21st - Spring Break - no Storytime that week.
March 18th - I will be in training all day
March 24th - LapSit 9:30 a.m.
March 25th - Storytime 2 year olds
March 26th - Storytime 3 & 4 year olds
March 27th - ODL will hold an Advanced Training Class in the Thelma Knox Brown Conference Room, I will be in that training all day.

Easter Egg Hunt

On Wednesday, March 5th, 10:00 a.m., storytime children will have an Easter Egg Hunt. We will hunt Easter egg candy outside around the west side of the library, weather permitting. In case of adverse weather the egg hunt will be held in the Children's Department. There will be no Storytime on Tuesday, March 4th. We have invited the Head Start children to join us. Hope to see everyone that Wednesday and don't forget your Easter baskets.

LapSit

We are having a great time at LapSit. I would like to invite parents, grandparents, or caregivers of children 0 - 24 months attend. Our next program will be February 25th, 9:30 a.m., out theme will be colors.

Valentine's Day


O'donna and I wish everyone Happy Valentine's Day. Don't forget to stop by the library for the Friends of the Library Chocolate Fantasy.

Snowman Contest

Good snowy afternoon,
Our snowman contest was a great success. Everyone did a great job decorating their snowman. We are displaying them on the window across from the Thelma Knox Brown Conference Room. The snowmen were judged and all awarded first place in their category. Prizes will be distribute on Tuesday, February 4th and Wednesday, February 5th. Please stop by and view them the children did a great job.

Valentine's Party


Hello, The Perry Carnegie Library, Children's Department will host a Storytime Valentine's Party. The party will be Tuesday, February 12th, 10:00 - 10:30. We will combine Tuesday and Wednesday Storytime groups. Come and join for our party!

Home School

Good Afternoon, Perry Carnegie Library will host a Valentine's Crafting Program for the home schoolers in the Perry Area. We will meeting on Thursday, February 7th, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
This program will be a once a month event. The program will take place the first Thursday of the month, will May being the last one until September.

Workshop

Good Afternoon, on Wednesday, February 6th, I will be in OKC at a Summer Reading Program Workshop. Jeffrey or Cherie will be doing Storytime that day.

LapSit


Good Afternoon everyone, Perry Carnegie Library is now offering LapSit (infant storytime).
LapSit programs consist of parents and infants bonding with books. The program is designed to introduce infants (age 0 – 24 months) to the world of sounds and stories. Parents, grandparents, or caregivers are encouraged to attend with their child.
This program will take place every other Monday, with the next session occurring Monday, February 11th from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. For more information on LapSit, please contact Linda Branson at 580-336-7300.

Library Closed

Good afternoon,

The Perry Carnegie Library will be closed Monday, January 21st, for Martin Luther King Day. We will re-open Tuesday, January 22nd at 9:00 a.m.

Storytime News

Good afternoon,

We will not have storytime Tuesday or Wednesday, January 15th & 16 due to RIF.

During storytime January 22nd & 23rd, I will hand out a snowman decorating sheet. Decorate the snowman and bring back on January 29th & 30th. You may color, glitter, paint, or any other decorating idea you may have. Prizes will be awarded (all participates will receive a prize). You have to attend storytime on the 22nd & 23rd to pick a snowman.

I have several special events planned for storytime in the coming months. Watch the Story Land blog for more information.
