December

The holiday season as arrived!
Perry Carnegie Library is dressed in its Christmas best!
Come join us during this holiday time!

For the following events!
Storytime
"Christmas @ the Library" - Tuesday & Wednesday, December 8th & 9th, 10:10 - 10:50 a.m.
"Santa Claus @ the Library" - Tuesday, December 15th, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Santa will read his favorite Christmas story, pictures will be taken with the jolly old man in red. Punch and cookies will be served.
No Storytime from December 16th until January 5th.
"Open House and Tea" - Thursday, December 10th, 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Perry Carnegie Library, Friends of the Library, will host its Second Annual Open House, come visit our library, take a tour, and partake in refreshments of hot apple cider and cookies. Cherie M. Fields, author of "The Sun Will Come Up Tomorrow", (Fields is married to local resident, Gerald Payne), will be here to sign her new book. She will also have books for sale. We would love to have you join us. Be sure to stay downtown for the Christmas Parade that will follow at 7:00 p.m.
"PACE Annual Christmas Movie and Party" - Thursday, December 17th, 1:30 - 3:30.

Closed for Thanksgiving


Perry Carnegie Library will be closed beginning Wednesday, November 25th, 3:00 p.m. and reopen Monday, November 30th, 9:00. The staff of PCL would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

October is Safety Month

Good Morning,
Be sure to join us on Friday, October 16, 2009, 10:00 - 11:00, Thelma Knox Brown Conference Room.
Perry Carnegie Library and Friends of the Library, Perry Carnegie Library, will host a Safety Program. Our guests will be the Perry Police Department including Tygo, Perry's K-9 unit, and Perry Fire Department, who will have a fire truck set up on the west side of the library for the children to explorer. Each department will present a short program.

Miss Linda's Story Land goes live!

Beginning August 25th, Miss Linda's Story Land will begin airing on Channel 19, Perry Information Network (PIN). Our program will air on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m., children stories for 2 - 6 year old. I hope you will watch the program.

Tuesday Morning Storytime

Registration begins Wednesday, August 26th, for Tuesday Morning Storytime. Storytime begins Tuesday, September 8th. Session are as followed: ages 0 - 2, 9:30 - 9:50, and 3 & 4 year old, 10:10 - 10:50. Pamphlets will be available when you sign up your child. We have a lot of fun themes and activities planned for the upcoming year.

End of Summer

Where does the time go, seems like yesterday it was January 1, 2009, and here we are nearing the end of August. School has begun and Perry is getting ready for the Cherokee Strip Celebration.
Oh my gosh, could the 2009 Summer Reading Program been more fun. We had a blast! Nearly 1,000 children and adults attended one or all of the programs offer. I thank everyone who attended.
Congratulation, Aiden Dillon, (2 - 6 age group) and Desmond England, (7 - 12 age group), they were the top readers in their age groups. Congratulation, Carson Rames - week 5 winner of The Oklahoman contest. Stop by and see some of the art work and the comic book the Wednesday SRP made. It is so neat.

Open Mike Day


Thursday, July 9, 2009, 10 - 11 a.m. is Perry Carnegie Library's "Open Mike Day".
Do you have a special talent - singing, dancing, magic, or wriggle you nose, then come and perform for your friends.
The only requirement is you must between the ages of 6 - 12.

Scholastic Book Fair

"Lights, Camera, Action" was Perry Carnegie Library's annual Scholastic Book Fair theme this year. The fair was held in the Thelma Knox Brown Conference Room the first week of June. Sales were out of sight, a 41% increase from last year. Fair profits enable the library to purchase books and other items for the Children's and Teen Departments.
A BIG THANK YOU goes out to: Friends of the Library, our staff, and most of all the public for your continued support.
We are currently making plans to host the 2010 Scholastic Book Fair.

Summer Fun @ Your Library

Good Morning,
Are you having a fun summer? We are here at the library; our Summer Reading Program is in full SWING!

Following is a list of activities for the week:
Movie Mondays: 1:30 - 3:30, age-appropriate movies are shown and just like the theater we serve popcorn and drinks. Ages 4 and up are invited to spend a COOL afternoon with us.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday programs are from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Preschool Tuesdays (ages 2 - 6): a fun-filled hour of reading, listening to music, dancing, and art.
Primary Wednesdays (ages 7 -12): the kids are working towards writing and illustrating a comic book about "children at the library" along with reading a chapter book.
Guest Thursdays (all ages): We had Betty Tetik and Tonya Greenlee, published Perry writers, stop in for a visit. Betty read her book "If You Are Mad : Say It With Words ". Tonya read several poems she wrote as a child and from her book "Feel This Empty Heart". Perry is very blessed to have so many talents citizens.

Jim Franklin - July 2nd, Perry's sculptor will be here to talk about sculpting.
Open Mike Day - July 9th - Calling all children! Can you sing, dance, do magic, or have a special talent and would like to share, July 9th is your day, we are hosting a open mike day to showcase our talented children.

Monty Harper - July 16th, performing in the courthouse park, he has written new songs for this year’s theme.

Danny Hodge - July 23th - The truly great Danny Hodge will be our guest speaker. "The Oklahoma Shooter: the Danny Hodge Story!" was written about his career.

????? - July 30th: Our guest is ??????? more information coming soon.

Steve Crawford - August 6th, performing in the courthouse park, he has new tricks to show us.
August 6th will also be our "end of Summer Reading Program" party. The party will be held in the courthouse park. More information coming soon.

April 13th - 17th



Good Afternoon,
A short note about our exciting week at the library this week (April 13th - 17th).
First off no Storytime due to the FOL Book Sale.
It is National Library Week we would love to have you visit us check out a book, movies, or music.
Perry Progress Club will be have its annual Progress Club Coffee, Wednesday, April 15, from 9:30 - 11:00 am.
Wednesday, April 15th, begin the FOL Book Sales from noon - 5:00, and 9:00 - 5:00, Thursday and Friday.

Winter Weather Update: Library Open Today, But No Storytime

We hope that everyone throughout Perry and Noble County are taking it slow if they have to get out in today's winter weather. The library will be open for its normal hours of operation.

However, please note that THERE WILL BE NO STORYTIME TODAY. We hope to see all our favorite kids next week, but today, we encourage you to stay in with your little ones.

January

Good Afternoon,
It seems like yesterday we were starting 2008, and here it is 2009. The Children's Department has hit the year running. Last week we had our first Tuesday Storytime and PACE gathering for 2009, and this week in our first RIF Distribution for 2009.
We will be closed Monday, January 19th for Martin Luther King Day.
Our next two storytime will be Tuesday - January 20th & 27th, our themes will be "penguins and polar bears" & "will the groundhog see his shadow?"
